In action for the lizard: Together with Rifcon, GOLDBECK SOLAR employees build a dry wall at the Großsachsen barbecue area.

As part of Earth Week, employees of GOLDBECK SOLAR and Rifcon built a dry wall for fence lizards on Thursday. The nature conservation project at the Großsachsen barbecue area in the extended Winzerweg in is intended to provide a pleasant environment for many animal species. The mayor of Hirschberg, Ralf Gänshirt, also paid a brief visit.

Instead of planning and installing solar panels and inverters, it was time for some employees of GOLDBECK SOLAR to pick up their shovels and go into the forest. They swapped the office for half a day with the barbecue area in Großsachsen. Together with theRifcon Team, they tackled the task of building a dry stone wall for lizards. Hirschberg Mayor Ralf Gänshirt also paid a visit to our eager builders.

As part of Earth Day 2021 , our employees, like many others worldwide, created an entire Earth Week. Everyone thought of a way he or she could reduce their own ecological footprint and save CO2. Rifcon, with whom we are already working on various concepts for environmental protection, is of course the perfect partner to do something on site in Hirschberg. This is how the idea of the dry stone wall for lizards was born. In the future, fence lizards, but also wild bees, birds, smooth snakes and other animals should find a comfortable habitat on and around the dry stone wall. It was built with sandstones from the community’s former cemetery wall.

Many small steps for one big goal

Of course, Earth Day and Earth Week are just small drops in the bucket. “We must try to do as much as possible every day to protect our environment,” GOLDBECK-SOLAR Managing Director Joachim Goldbeck is convinced. For GOLDBECK SOLAR, nature conservation does not only mean the installation of solar plants. With Monika Leiner, a sustainability officer was already appointed a year ago in order to constantly check how the company can position itself more sustainably. And she is actively supported in this by her colleagues, said Monika Leiner at the start of Earth Week. Many small projects have been created since then, and some are still in the planning stage. All employees are working on these projects to set an example in environmental protection.
