Ecologically upgraded photovoltaic systems

Ecovoltaics – Biodiversity and Photovoltaics in harmony

With these possibilities, GOLDBECK SOLAR combines biodiversity with solar energy.

A solar power plant is an essential component of clean energy production and CO2-Reduction. It makes an important contribution to environmental protection and the energy transition. But we want to do more for our planet. That is why, together with our partners from Rifcon, we are focusing on the ecological enhancement of the plant. With Ecovoltaics, the solar plant also promotes biodiversity. The Photovoltaic becomes a biotope link in the local ecosystem. Implement some simple but smart measures, you efficiently increase the level of environmental protection. Learn which solar farm improvements protect endangered species, support the development of local species, and thus help stabilize the ecosystem.

Small improvements, low costs – big impact for ecosystems

GOLDBECK SOLAR offers its customers three packages to increase the biodiversity of your photovoltaic system:

Ecovoltaics, the method for the ecological upgrading of a photovoltaic system, was developed in cooperation with our partner Rifcon.
Rifcon specializes in the global protection of biodiversity. The measures taken to improve biodiversity are scientifically monitored and their impact is measured.

The best time to start the environmental impact assessment is during the site selection process for the construction of the solar plant. According to the construction regulations for solar power plants in Germany, compensatory measures must be defined as soon as a natural area is affected. Such measures can be, for example, planting hedges or creating new habitats.

Early site analysis creates the best conditions for the success of Ecovoltaics measures. However, it is also possible to increase the quality of biodiversity and environmental protection in already-built plants.

Your benefits through Ecovoltaics:

  • You increase the acceptance of your ground-mounted PV system among residents and neighbors.
  • You make an active contribution to the protection of nature and the environment through the ecological enhancement of your commercially used area (without high costs and verifiable over a few years).
  • Increasing biodiversity is not accompanied by an increase in operating costs.
  • You may be able to credit the measure/area to obtain “green points”.
  • With the help of the improvements, you can meet environmental requirements without expensive compensatory measures.
  • Science teams develop improvements on a site-by-site basis (no “greenwashing” actions).
  • Ecovoltaics represent a tangible solution.

Our contract packages

A solar power plant produces clean energy, reduces CO2-emissions, and represents a path to independent energy production. In addition, a photovoltaic plant optimized for biodiversity is an important bio-topic link in the local ecosystem.

Basic

  • Use of light equipment for the production of at least 5 Habitats such as rock fills and deadwood structures
  • Planting trees, shrubs, plantings
  • Maintenance management in consultation with farmers/shepherds
  • Monitoring (period: 3 years): Recording of birds and reptiles in the solar park with 2 inspections/year in suitable weather conditions/season.

Premium

  • Use of light equipment to produce at least 10 Habitats such as rock fills and deadwood structures
  • Attach Benjes hedges
  • Monitoring (period: 3 years): Recording of birds and reptiles in the solar park with 2 inspections/year in suitable weather conditions/season.
  • Public relations: Installation of 2 educational boards in weatherproof 10 mm HPL design with logo.

Exclusive

  • Use of heavy equipment to produce at least 15 Habitats Such as riprap, deadwood structures, pools, and raw soils.
  • Creating artificial break-off edges and small steep walls for wild bees
  • Attach Benjes hedges
  • Monitoring (period: 3 years): Recording of birds, reptiles and amphibians in the solar park with 3 inspections/year in suitable weather conditions/season.
  • Public relations: Installation of 2 educational boards in weatherproof 10 mm HPL design with logo.

This is how we increase biodiversity together:

  • Recommendation of site-specific, sensible measures to maintain and increase biodiversity at the project site./li>
  • Satellite images (focus: insects, amphibians, birds), without intervention in the maintenance effort. Written, valuable, layout tbd.
  • Existing information on fauna/flora

  • On-site survey by RifCon
  • Concrete concept (written), “ready-to-build”, concrete action plan (quantity, location, imaging, etc).
  • Specifications for implementation (drawing, instructions, etc)
  • Within Germany, neighboring countries, other countries

  • Structural implementation of the measures from the concept by RifCon (management with local subs)

  • Monitoring the success of the measures through regular surveys over three years (incl. reporting)
  • within Germany
