Goldbeck Solar Plans Expansion of Akadyr Project in Kazakhstan

EPC company wins contract for further solar project

Exactly one day before the opening ceremony of the 50 MW solar power plant in Akadyr, Goldbeck Solar is already in the starting blocks with the next project. As an extension, the EPC company is planning an expansion at the same location with an output of 26 MW, which will bring the entire project in Akadyr to an output of almost 76 MW. The project was put out to tender in an auction. Ten companies were admitted to this auction. These companies submitted a total of 60 bids, all with an output of between 10.1 and 28 MW. In addition to Goldbeck Solar, the Russian solar system LLP was also awarded the contract.

Goldbeck Solar relies on its experience

“Tobias Schüßler, COO at Goldbeck Solar, is delighted that the company won the auction at the end of September and that we can now start directly with the expansion of the Akadyr plant. “As an innovation for the project in Kazakhstan, we are planning a mixture of a permanently employed system and a tracker system, each with bifacial modules,” says Schüßler.

Even before the end of the auction, Schüßler expressed his positive mood: “Our competence speaks for us. After all, we have already accompanied several projects in Kazakhstan and are very familiar with the local particularities. Tobias Schüssler alludes to the climatic conditions and the Kazakh authorities. As last time, one of the biggest challenges will be the weather conditions. Not all components can withstand the harsh temperatures of around -40 degrees Celsius in winter. That’s why only high-quality parts are suitable for the extension. “When importing the parts, we can rely on our experience from past projects,” adds Schüssler. “We can therefore almost completely rule out project delays caused by complications during import”.

Expansion planned for 2020

With the award, the PV power plant Akadyr, which currently has an output of 49.991 MW, can be expanded by 26 MW to 75.991 MW. Construction is scheduled for summer 2020. Until then, Goldbeck Solar will determine all the planning and logistical bases so that the smooth running of the project can be guaranteed.
