Twenty-five years ago, I founded GOLDBECK SOLAR—with a deep desire in my heart and a clear vision in my mind: I wanted to create something that would stand the test of time. Something that would not only make economic sense, but above all, make a real contribution to our society and our environment.

As an engineer, I learned early on that technology can be more than just a means to an end. It can be a tool—a tool to make the world a little better. I didn’t want to invest my skills, my energy, and my time in short-term successes, but rather in something solid that will endure today and tomorrow. The sun as a source of energy has fascinated me from the very beginning: It’s clean, reliable, and available to everyone. So why not harness this power to build sustainable solutions?

But a company is more than just technology. It’s the people who shape it. It has always been important to me that our employees don’t just come to work, but that they do so with joy and conviction. Because only those who work with enthusiasm can reach their full potential. That’s why we at GOLDBECK SOLAR have created a culture in which trust, responsibility, and team spirit are put into practice.

Today, I look back with gratitude on what we have achieved together: over 5 gigawatts of installed solar capacity in more than 20 countries, award-winning innovations, strong partnerships, and a growing team that shares our values. But what matters even more to me is that with every project, we’re making a contribution—to climate protection, to energy independence, and to a future worth living.

I love nature. For me, it’s not just a source of inspiration, but also a responsibility. Through GOLDBECK SOLAR, I want to do my part to ensure that future generations, too, can enjoy an intact environment. That’s what drives me—yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

GOLDBECK SOLAR handles project development and planning—from the initial idea to implementation—as well as the execution and turnkey construction of solar systems using high-quality components. All construction and organizational processes are managed in an integrated manner. Even after commissioning, GOLDBECK SOLAR remains a reliable partner for the operation, Maintenance, and technical and financial management of the systems.

Full Steam Ahead for Innovation

GOLDBECK SOLAR is consistently driving the further development of solar energy and integrating new technologies to provide a comprehensive range of services. The company invests in the development of its own solar assets (solar power plants) and offers them to investors. The systems are also utilized through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), i.e., long-term contracts between the plant operator and the electricity consumer.

In addition, GOLDBECK SOLAR has firmly established other technologies and business models in its portfolio. These include, among other things, the development and implementation of substations for connecting solar power plants to high-voltage grids. The strategic focus on utility-scale ground-mounted solar farms also marked an important step forward.

Today, the integration of storage systems is an integral part of projects, as are hybrid system concepts. These include combinations with other technologies or applications, such as AgriPV, which effectively integrate agricultural use with electricity generation. These solutions can be integrated into projects in a flexible, efficient, and site-specific manner.

GOLDBECK SOLAR sees itself as an innovation-driven company that is evolving dynamically and providing important impetus to the industry. Currently, the focus is particularly on developments in the areas of automation and robotization in plant construction. For example, GOLDBECK SOLAR has developed an automated assembly solution that significantly improves efficiency, quality, scalability, and workplace safety. These innovations have the potential to bring about lasting change in the solar industry.

Milestones

In the 25 years since its founding in 2001, GOLDBECK SOLAR has evolved from a specialist in industrial solar roofs into a global company that covers the entire value chain of large-scale photovoltaic projects. This development was made possible by technical innovation and international expansion. Founder Joachim Goldbeck is guided by a clear vision for a sustainable energy future.

Among the most important milestones of the past 25 years are partnerships, innovations, and awards. Of particular significance were the company’s global expansion, technological advancements, and strategic collaborations.

Background to the Founding

The development of GOLDBECK SOLAR began long before the company was founded in 2001. Joachim Goldbeck developed an interest in environmental issues, technology, and international relations at an early age. He chose a field of study that combined these interests.

During my studies, I also developed a particular interest in energy and energy efficiency. While writing my thesis abroad, my international perspective broadened even further.

This was followed by a career in the solar industry, where Joachim Goldbeck combined technical expertise with practical market experience. At the same time, the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), which took effect on April 1, 2000, established reliable economic conditions for the expansion of renewable energy in Germany for the first time.

Personal motivation, technical expertise, international experience, industry knowledge, and a favorable political environment—all the necessary conditions were in place. The time was right to found GOLDBECK SOLAR.

Phase 1: Early Years (2001–2006)

The Start of an Entrepreneurial Journey – Focus on Rooftop Systems and Technical Foundations

2001: On August 8, 2001, the company GOLDBECK SOLAR GmbH was registered at the Erfurt Local Court under number HRB 111917 in Ichtershausen, Thörey.

There were good reasons for choosing a location near Erfurt: Several solar energy companies were already operating there, and some GOLDBECK Bau employees were active in the region. This created an environment conducive to the development of an innovative solar energy company. As founder and first managing director, Joachim Goldbeck initially focused on consulting, planning, installation, and maintenance of solar power plants on industrial and commercial rooftops. It was through the projects of the family-owned company GOLDBECK that he came up with the idea of using the roofs of commercial buildings for photovoltaics. But GOLDBECK SOLAR soon evolved further; the early years were marked by technical specialization and the establishment of a strong core business in Germany. Preparations for international growth also began shortly thereafter. It was the start of a journey toward becoming a global player in the solar industry.

2002–2003: GOLDBECK SOLAR focuses on the German market and builds up core competencies in solar technology. This includes the development of its own mounting system, “Sunovation,” for roof surfaces with low load-bearing capacity. This lightweight mounting system enables the installation of PV systems on delicate flat roofs.


From Thuringia to Hirschberg

2004: Joachim Goldbeck relocates the company’s headquarters from Thuringia to Hirschberg an der Bergstraße in Baden-Württemberg. The location near the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region facilitates access to customers and skilled workers. The move marks the end of the start-up phase and the beginning of a new phase in the company’s development.

2005–2006: GOLDBECK SOLAR consolidates its position in Germany and continues to build up its expertise; preparations for expansion into Spain begin.

The Industry 2001–2006: The Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) triggered a photovoltaic boom in Germany starting in 2000. The guaranteed feed-in tariffs, initially around 50 ct/kWh, made investments in PV economically viable for the first time. At the same time, prices for the systems and their installation fell—partly due to international competition: In particular, low-cost manufacturers from China entered the market, and starting in 2004, the costs of PV systems fell significantly. German policymakers committed to the energy transition; the red-green coalition government, re-elected in 2002, remained committed to the EEG.

Conclusion: GOLDBECK SOLAR is launching in a favorable environment for pioneers in sustainable energy—generous subsidies, technological advances, and political support are making it easier to enter the market.

Phase 2: International Expansion and Open Spaces (2007–2017)

From rooftop solutions to expansion into open spaces and internationalization.

2007: Starting in 2007, GOLDBECK SOLAR expanded its business from rooftop systems to large ground-mounted solar power plants, marking the beginning of a targeted international expansion. The gradual expansion into the European market began in Spain.

2008: With the completion of its first major ground-mounted projects—the 5.9 MWp NEEC solar park in Murcia—GOLDBECK SOLAR entered the Spanish market.

2009: GOLDBECK SOLAR expands into Eastern Europe and launches projects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
At the same time, the company expands its product portfolio to include PV solutions for parking garage roofs, building facades, and landfill sites. With this diversification, GOLDBECK SOLAR demonstrates that solar technology can be integrated into a wide variety of architectural contexts.

2010: In collaboration with the chemical companies Ensinger and BASF, GOLDBECK SOLAR develops an innovative mounting system for flat-roof solar installations. The accompanying substructure,“Sunolution,” successfully establishes itself in the market.

The Industry 2007–2010: The solar market in Europe is growing rapidly thanks to generous subsidy programs. Things take a turbulent turn: In Spain, a record expansion is followed by a financing crisis. The Czech Republic also experiences severe cutbacks in 2010 following excessive subsidies. PV prices are falling globally, primarily due to Chinese manufacturers.
In 2009, the EU sets ambitious targets for the expansion of solar energy, and many countries launch their own subsidy programs. In this environment, GOLDBECK SOLAR decides early on to pursue internationalization and large-scale projects.

2011: GOLDBECK SOLAR enters the strategically important British market and establishes a branch office. The first projects follow, and the United Kingdom emerges as one of the company’s main markets alongside Germany.

2012: The company achieved a breakthrough in the United Kingdom, aided by the incentive system (Renewable Obligation Certificates, ROCs), which makes large ground-mounted installations attractive. The Sunolution product is already well established in the market; this is followed by Sunnovation, a particularly lightweight yet robust further development of the mounting system.
Partnership: A strategic partnership is formed with the London-based investment firm Hazel Capital.

Major Projects: GOLDBECK SOLAR announces an 8.3-MWp solar park in Somerset featuring an innovative decentralized inverter concept and a 4.6-MWp solar park in Wales.

2013: The projects in Somerset and Wales, including a 6.5 MWp plant in Devon, are connected to the grid on schedule. Despite a harsh winter, the solar parks are completed before April, adding a total of 19.4 MWp of new capacity in the UK. Joachim Goldbeck sees this as validation of his strategy and recognizes further growth potential in the British market. His company is also establishing itself as one of the leading EPC firms in the solar industry in other European countries.

Context 2011–2013: Following the 2011 nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, Germany decided to phase out nuclear power, and other countries followed suit. After solar subsidies were cut in Germany, the market collapsed in 2013. Solar companies sought new markets, such as the United Kingdom and Italy. China declared solar energy a key industry and provided massive support for it. GOLDBECK SOLAR weathered these turbulent years—including the market shakeout—through expansion and diversification; partnerships such as the one with Hazel Capital in the UK proved helpful.

Phase 3: Awards and Diversification (2014 2017)

Intersolar Award and O&M Setup

2014: Joachim Goldbeck is elected president of the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar). GOLDBECK SOLAR receives major awards for technical excellence and outstanding project management:
Solar Power Portal Award (UK): GOLDBECK SOLAR has been honored with the award for the best ground-mounted solar power plant over 10 MWp in the United Kingdom for the Lackford Estate solar park in Suffolk. The jury commended the excellent site selection, the system design, and the company’s strong commitment to the region and to biodiversity conservation.

Intersolar Award (Germany): The project at the Marienheide School and Sports Center in North Rhine-Westphalia has been awarded the prestigious Intersolar Award. The award-winning technical innovation combines a photovoltaic system with a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, allowing both technologies to be utilized to their full potential.

These awards—both national and international—are milestones: They recognize GOLDBECK SOLAR’s technical leadership and the high quality of its projects.

2015: Expansion of the services business—specifically, plant operations and maintenance (O&M)—through two acquisitions.

Effective retroactively as of January 1, 2015, the plant management and maintenance portfolio of Soventix GmbH will be acquired, with the goal of expanding O&M activities as part of a growth strategy.

On April 1, 2015, Gehrlicher Solar Services GmbH was acquired, a leading European O&M provider that expanded the managed portfolio by approximately 170 MWp. In 2015, GOLDBECK SOLAR reinforced its position as an integrated provider capable of efficiently managing existing plants in addition to new construction projects.

Industry 2014–2015:
Following the boom of previous years, the PV industry adapted to new market conditions. In Germany, the auction system replaced the fixed feed-in tariffs in 2015; many companies went out of business or were acquired. Internationally, the solar market continued to grow strongly, supported by the Paris Climate Agreement. New markets and financing opportunities opened up for GOLDBECK SOLAR, while the expansion of its O&M business further developed the company into an integrated PV service provider.

2016: Through its sister company Solarnet GmbH, the company begins its expansion into Latin America and Asia—GOLDBECK SOLAR is focused on the rapidly growing solar markets worldwide and is committed to intercontinental expansion.

2017: Global expansion continues with the opening of offices in Mexico City and the company’s entry into the Chilean and Thai markets. At the same time, the company wins another Intersolar Award.

Intersolar Award – Hellsiek Landfill
GOLDBECK SOLAR has received the Intersolar Award for the “Hellsiek Landfill” project in Detmold. The award-winning photovoltaic system combines energy generation with landfill capping and exemplifies engineering innovation and sustainable land use.

Industry: 2016–2017:
Large-scale solar projects were put out to bid worldwide at declining prices, while energy storage, grid services, and new financing models gained in importance. GOLDBECK SOLAR leveraged international partnerships, advocated politically for better regulatory conditions, and tapped into new application areas such as Agri-PV. During this phase, the company took the step toward internationalization in collaboration with Solarnet.

Phase 4: Independence & Globalization (2018–2026)

Independence, Holding Structure, Kazakhstan, North America, and Partnerships

2018: The new alignment marks a turning point that paves the way for accelerated global growth.

After lengthy deliberations on their future strategy, the brothers concluded that the companies could operate more dynamically in the market if responsibility for capital were brought closer together with technical and market expertise. Joachim Goldbeck therefore founded Joachim Goldbeck Holding to consolidate under its umbrella Solarnet—which was already active abroad at the time—GOLDBECK SOLAR, and the newly established GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment.

The new structure increases flexibility in global markets. The company is evolving into a provider covering the entire value chain—from project development and financing through construction (EPC) and operations (O&M) to electricity sales.

Expansion into Kazakhstan: GOLDBECK SOLAR is building what was then the largest solar power plant in Central Asia.

Project: The SES Saran solar park, with a capacity of 100 MWp, is being built on a 160-hectare site near the city of Saran in the Karaganda region.

Partners: Financing of approximately 105 million U.S. dollars is secured through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Technical partners include Enerparc (engineering), Canadian Solar (modules), and Schneider Electric (inverters). The electricity will be sold to a state-owned company under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Challenges: The project is being carried out under extreme weather conditions (temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +40 °C), with significant logistical challenges, and within a record construction period of just six months.

Significance: The project, which went into operation in 2018, serves as a strategic gateway and an important reference point along the “New Silk Road.” GOLDBECK SOLAR is thus demonstrating its expertise in complex large-scale projects and laying the foundation for further growth in the region.

2019: A Milestone in the Netherlands
The company reaches the one-gigawatt mark in installed capacity.

As the general contractor (EPC), GOLDBECK SOLAR is building the Midden-Groningen Solar Park, which, at 103 MWp, was the largest solar power plant in the Netherlands at the time.

Location and Scope: The facility covers nearly 120 hectares in the municipality of Midden-Groningen and supplies approximately 33,000 households.

Partners: The project was carried out for the developer Astronergy (Chint Solar), which is also supplying the approximately 317,000 solar modules. The owner is Blue Elephant Energy AG. Other partners include SMA (inverters), Greencells, and ABB (construction and Grid Connection).

Challenges: Despite technical hurdles, the project was completed in a record time of just eight months and connected directly to TenneT’s 110-kV high-voltage grid—a first for a solar project of this kind in the Netherlands.

Industry 2018–2019: After years of stagnation, global demand is surging. China did, however, adjust its subsidy policy in mid-2018, causing prices to fall by about 30%. As a result, Europe experienced a PV boom starting in 2019 (EU-wide new installations up 104% compared to 2018), driven by Spain ( >ing 4 GW without subsidies for the first time in years, via power purchase agreements), the Netherlands (SDE+ auctions), and Germany. There is tailwind from climate policy: In 2018–19, the Greta Thunberg movement increases pressure on governments to act more ambitiously. In 2019, the EU announces the European Green Deal with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Technology: Modern systems increasingly use tracking systems and high-performance modules (>400 W). In many places, solar power is the most affordable source of electricity.

Economy: Traditional energy providers (e.g., Enel, EDF) and oil companies (Total, BP) are entering the solar project business. For GOLDBECK SOLAR, this means, on the one hand, stiffer competition in tenders and, on the other hand, a more professional demand for EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) services.

2020: GOLDBECK SOLAR successfully completed major projects despite significant challenges (the COVID-19 pandemic). In Germany, 96 MWp of new capacity is installed, including large-scale projects such as Zietlitz (80 MWp). In the Netherlands, the annual expansion capacity even reaches ~270 MWp (projects in Stadskanaal, Buinerveen, Duurkenakker, and others).

The O&M business continues to grow: Together with Chint Solar, GOLDBECK SOLAR is establishing the joint venture Zonnepark Services Nederland B.V., which provides Maintenance for over 1 GWp of solar parks. In addition, at the end of 2020, GOLDBECK SOLAR acquired a stake in the mounting system manufacturer PMT (Premium Mounting Technologies) to expand its product portfolio in the field of substructures.
Internationally, the company continues to expand in Kazakhstan—the Akadyr expansion project (26 MWp) is successfully completed—and in Mexico, where the first solar projects using tracker technology are being implemented. Despite supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, all projects are being implemented on time and within budget. GOLDBECK SOLAR is proving to be resilient and is laying the groundwork for further growth through new alliances (Chint JV) and investments (PMT).

2021: GOLDBECK SOLAR achieved several milestones this year. Among them is MarcS (Modular Arc System), a proprietary development—an arc-shaped support system that enables dual use of the land (e.g., agriculture beneath solar modules). For this innovation, GOLDBECK SOLAR wins the 2021 Intersolar Award.

GOLDBECK SOLAR completes challenging projects, such as the 37 MWp Bavelse Berg solar park in the Netherlands, which stands out for its complex engineering.

The company is celebrating its 20th anniversary and continues to position itself as a fast-growing family-owned business.
By 2021, the number of employees will grow to over 265, spread across locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Chile, Canada, and Thailand.

At the end of 2021, GOLDBECK SOLAR was named a “Top Employer 2022” among small and medium-sized businesses by the business magazine Focus, based on employee surveys.

Industry 2020–2021: Pandemic & Economy: To cope with the COVID-19 crisis, many countries are adopting economic stimulus packages, often with a green focus—that is, promoting sustainability and renewable energy.

In 2020, the EU launched the €750 billion “NextGenerationEU” package, and the U.S. (under President Biden since 2021) is also providing massive support for clean energy. The PV industry is suffering from delays at construction sites and in component shipments due to the coronavirus, but demand remains high.

Politics & Climate: In 2021, the U.S. rejoins the Paris Agreement, China announces carbon neutrality by 2060, and the EU fleshes out the Fit for 55 plan. In Germany, the new “traffic light” coalition (starting in December 2021) promises a “solar acceleration.” In fact, shortly thereafter, it significantly raises the PV targets (from ~50 GW to 215 GW by 2030).

Technically: An accelerated expansion of storage systems is underway (primarily battery storage, but also hydrogen, thermal, and other forms of storage)—in 2021, battery storage systems will be connected to solar farms for the first time worldwide. Electric mobility is also booming (sales of electric cars will double in 2021), creating new markets for solar power.

Economic: Raw material prices—especially for polysilicon—are surging in 2021, which is temporarily halting the decline in solar module prices. However, new factory capacity has already been announced. The years 2020–2021 have shown that solar energy is crisis-resistant; it has evolved from a niche sector into a systemically important energy sector. GOLDBECK SOLAR’s strategy of focusing on innovation, global presence, and solid engineering is well-suited to the demands of the times.

2022: Expansion into North America

Effective September 9, 2022, GOLDBECK SOLAR will acquire GP Joule’s North American EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) business.

Acquisition: The acquisition of GP JOULE PV Canada Corp. and GP JOULE PV USA Inc. is a key component of the global growth strategy and complements the company’s operations in Mexico and Chile.

With this acquisition, GOLDBECK SOLAR gains the entire local team of approximately 75 employees—who have ten years of market experience—as well as a project pipeline of over 500 MWp. GP Joule North America (NA) has already completed over 200 MWp in Canada and the U.S.

Strategic Goal: The acquisition will accelerate planned growth in the key markets of the U.S. and Canada in order to achieve the goal of a 10-GWp portfolio by 2030.

This year, GOLDBECK SOLAR is carrying out extraordinary projects. In Poland, the first phase of the Zwartowo solar park (204 MWp) will be connected to the grid in September. With a planned total capacity of 290 MWp, Zwartowo is the largest PV project in Central and Eastern Europe and is being implemented in cooperation with the local partner Respect Energy. Existing markets will continue to be served: Additional parks are being built in the Netherlands and Germany, and new projects are being pursued overseas.
In 2022, GOLDBECK SOLAR received a Bronze EcoVadis certification for its sustainability management.

2023: The North America division is officially renamed GOLDBECK SOLAR Canada / USA. The investment division is also renamed to create a unified brand identity: Solarnet Investment becomes GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment. In Canada, the “Youngstown solar park” (approx. 7.85 MWp) is completed. At the end of the year, the two solar parks in Chile—Paillihue (approx. 12 MWp) and Laja (approx. 11.7 MWp)—are inaugurated. At the same time, the investment division is standardized—Solarnet Investment becomes GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment worldwide.

Further accolades follow: GOLDBECK SOLAR is once again recognized by the business magazine Focus-Business as one of the top employers among small and medium-sized businesses and receives an international Developer of the Year Award (for outstanding project development achievements).

2024: In early January, the two Chilean solar parks, Paillihue and Laja, will officially begin operations, supplying a total of approximately 19,000 households with clean electricity.

GOLDBECK SOLAR is recognized as one of Germany’s most innovative medium-sized companies: In June 2024, it will receive the TOP 100 seal. This award (mentored by Ranga Yogeshwar) is based on a scientific selection of particularly innovative companies
Among the projects in 2024, one of the largest undertakings in Germany to date stands out: the Bartow Solar Park (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) with 260MWp. Construction on this mega-project will begin in the spring; covering over 205 hectares, it will be the second-largest solar park in Germany.

2025: GOLDBECK SOLAR reaches a construction output of 1 GW and a cumulative installed capacity of 4.6 GW. Key quality and process standards are established through ISO 9001 and other certifications. The EcoVadis Silver rating and the voluntary ESG report underscore the company’s clear commitment to sustainability and responsible growth.

The company has more than 550 employees and proudly bears kununu’s independent “Top Company 2025” seal, which is based on employee reviews (an award that only about 5% of companies on kununu receive).

The Founder: Joachim Goldbeck – Entrepreneur and Pioneer of Solar Energy

Joachim Goldbeck was born on May 5, 1970, in Bielefeld as the middle child of three. His family home embodied the values of education and entrepreneurship: His mother was a high school teacher, and his father founded the successful construction company GOLDBECK.

After graduating from high school, Joachim Goldbeck studied mechanical engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and graduated with a thesis he wrote during a semester abroad in Mexico. He then earned an MBA from the Collège des Ingénieurs. Even while he was a student, he became convinced that technological progress and the responsible use of natural resources must be inextricably linked.

This perspective was further solidified during his stay in Mexico: There, Joachim Goldbeck observed that a swimming pool was being heated with diesel despite intense sunlight. This experience made him keenly aware of the untapped potential of renewable energy—and just how great the gap between technical feasibility and actual use still was at that time.

In 1998, he began his professional career as a sales engineer at ASE (Applied Solar Energy) in Alzenau. During this early phase, he deepened his technical and market-related understanding of solar cells and photovoltaic systems and gained valuable experience across the entire value chain. ASE—which later became part of RWE SCHOTT Solar —thus laid an important foundation for his future career in the solar industry.

In 2001, Joachim Goldbeck founded GOLDBECK SOLAR GmbH—initially as part of the GOLDBECK Group. Solarnet GmbH was founded at the same time to handle special international projects. In the early years, the company primarily carried out industrial and commercial rooftop projects. From its original headquarters in Lichterhausen, Thuringia, Joachim Goldbeck relocated the company to Hirschberg an der Bergstraße in 2004. In 2007, the company began its international expansion with large-scale ground-mounted solar power plants. The company has since developed into an international player in the field of large-scale photovoltaic systems.

In 2018, a decisive step in the company’s development took place: its spin-off from the Goldbeck Group and the founding of the independent Joachim Goldbeck Holding. This laid the foundation for uniting the entire photovoltaic value chain under one roof—from project development through EPC and O&M to financing.

This step marks a true turning point in the company’s history. Since then, GOLDBECK SOLAR has operated completely independently and with the freedom to consistently pursue its own path—entrepreneurially, technologically, and strategically. It stands for the courage to take on responsibility and for a clear commitment to sustainable growth driven by its own strengths.

Joachim Goldbeck has been actively involved in the solar industry for many years. He gives presentations, participates in expert discussions, and is regularly invited to political meetings and international business trips. As the long-time president of the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) and, in 2019, a member of the German government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Board, he advocates for the energy transition.

His personality has a clear impact on his business practices. Joachim Goldbeck thinks long-term, works tirelessly, and places a high value on substantial, sustainable results. He approaches issues with patience and strives to create sustainable structures that will endure for future generations.

His approach is characterized by analytical thinking and an eye for fundamental connections and details. He identifies potential solutions even where established methods are lacking, and continues to develop new approaches with the necessary consistency and perseverance. Our expansion into international markets has often been an adventure:

Saran, KAZ – 100 MWp

Our Move Toward Independence and the Large-Scale Plant Sector

With the Saran solar park, GOLDBECK SOLAR completed one of the most ambitious projects in its history: the largest solar power plant in Central Asia—under extreme climatic, logistical, and regulatory conditions.

The project also marked a strategic turning point:
It was the first major project outside of Europe and would not have been possible before the GOLDBECK Group was spun off.

In Saran, GOLDBECK SOLAR demonstrated that it is capable of breaking new ground, taking responsibility, and finding solutions—even when there is no blueprint to follow.

When GOLDBECK SOLAR was founded 25 years ago, its mission was clear: “The best solar roofs for industry and commerce”—and shortly thereafter: “Solar projects at their best.” The goal was not just to implement solar projects, but to implement them in a way that would set the standard—EPC and O&M at the highest level, every detail carefully considered, and every system a testament to the fact that quality and reliability know no compromise.

This commitment has made the company what it is today. It is not outdated—it remains the foundation upon which everything else is built.

After all, energy is a strategic issue—for companies as well as for countries. Those who have access to energy under predictable conditions can produce, grow, and remain independent. We’ve been working on this for 25 years: an energy supply that is clean, decentralized, and independent. This is infrastructure, not product sales—and solar energy is its foundation.

What’s Changing Now

Today’s energy landscape raises different questions than it did 25 years ago. It’s no longer just about installing and operating a solar system. What matters most is how this system becomes part of a larger whole: how it stores electricity, when it feeds it into the grid, how it communicates with the grid, and how it evolves alongside new technologies. As a systems integrator, we build and operate energy infrastructure that remains reliable even when grids are strained and markets fluctuate. This is our new dimension: no longer the individual power plant, but the system in which it operates—with solar energy as a stable foundation.

That is why we are specifically expanding our expertise in the areas of substations and distribution stations. As the share of volatile generation grows, the value of a solar power system shifts to the question of when the electricity generated can be used. Battery storage is therefore no longer an optional add-on, but rather a prerequisite for ensuring that generation projects remain economically viable in the long term—and the key to a stable, flexible energy system. In this area, we don’t just want to grow along with the market; we want to be among its leading players. For us, BESS is not a side business, but a central component of our future strategy.
