On the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment and the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) signed an agreement to establish the joint venture company GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment Ukraine. With this step, GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment strengthens its commitment to Ukraine and promotes the expansion of renewable energy in the country. The aim of the newly founded company is to develop, finance, build and operate solar energy projects, thereby supporting Ukraine’s energy independence and resilience.

GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment Ukraine to develop 500 MWp of solar projects

GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment Ukraine plans to realize up to 500 MWp of solar projects in Ukraine in the next three to five years. Planning for the construction of the first solar park is scheduled to begin as early as fall 2024. The cooperation with the EBRD is a significant milestone. It is not only the EBRD’s first equity deal in the Ukrainian energy sector since the invasion, but also underlines both the economic viability of the investment project and the reliable partnership between GOLDBECK SOLAR and the EBRD, which have already worked together in previous project financing transactions in Poland and Kazakhstan. The closing of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals. Joachim Goldbeck, CEO of the GOLDBECK SOLAR Group, commented: “We are very proud to support Ukraine in the expansion of renewable energies. We are aware of the risks due to the current political situation, but it is all the more important to set an example today and invest in the future of Ukraine. We are delighted to have an experienced partner at our side in the EBRD, with whom we have already cooperated successfully on several projects.” Olga Kovalchuk, Managing Director at GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment Ukraine, adds: “This joint venture marks an important step for our company and for Ukraine. With our experience and the resources of the EBRD, we can make significant progress in the renewable energy sector. We see great potential in Ukraine and are confident that our actions will make a sustainable contribution to the country’s energy supply, but will also encourage other companies to follow our path.” Arvid Tuerkner, Managing Director Ukraine and Moldova at the EBRDsaid: “We welcome this project, which on the one hand has enabled a significant cross-border investment for Ukraine and at the same time will strengthen the EBRD’s experience and strong presence in the country.” Grzegorz Zielinski, Director for Energy Europe at EBRD, added: “We are very pleased to partner with GOLDBECK SOLAR Group, an experienced global renewable energy developer, to support Ukraine’s green future in these challenging times. We are convinced that the EBRD’s holistic approach to the Ukrainian energy sector, both at public and private level, will stimulate further investment in the sector.”

DEG loan to support green energy projects in Ukraine

GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment has signed a loan of 5 million euros from DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft for its commitment in Ukraine. This will be granted as part of the ImpactConnect program, which was initiated and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program is in line with GOLDBECK SOLAR’s goal of developing green energy projects with a positive impact on society.
