Mexico Podcast: Mexico’s energy transition reversal

Alexander Foeth from GOLDBECK SOLAR was a guest on the Mexico Podcast last week. Presenter Björn Lisker asked him, among other things, how the Mexican government is trying to influence the energy market and what this means for companies in the solar industry. An interesting conversation.

Renewable energies are not constantly available and therefore weaken the grids, argues the Mexican government time and again when it comes to expanding the electricity supply. The Mexican government uses this justification to explain legislative initiatives that are intended to reverse the energy reform and clearly favor state-owned electricity suppliers. This approach is being criticized by business associations and solar companies alike. This is because many companies have invested in Mexico since 2013, trusting that the energy reform measures will be sustainable.

Space for plants is available

In the 20th episode of the Mexico podcast, presenter Björn Lisker talks to Alexander Foeth from GOLDBECK SOLAR about this development. GOLDBECK SOLAR has been active in Mexico since 2018 with projects in the private sector and even produces electricity for the region itself together with its partner Notus. Most recently, the Autodromo and Mann & Hummel projects were presented.

“We even see ourselves in line with the region’s concerns,” explains Alexander Foeth, Business Developer at GOLDBECK SOLAR in the Mexico podcast. “We don’t use the public grid. The electricity is generated and fed in directly at the consumer’s premises. We even relieve the load on the grid.”

More than 80 potential locations and candidates for such solar projects have been analyzed – so there is sufficient development potential for Mexico. Despite the Mexican government’s presumed change of course, GOLDBECK SOLAR is sticking to its investment in the Mexican market, explains Alexander Foeth. In his Mexico podcast, podcaster Björn Lisker discusses current events from Mexico once a week and sorts them out for his listeners with his guests.
