Der Mexico Podcast #20 mit Alexander Foeth von Goldbeck Solar

Mexico Podcast: Mexico's energy transition reversal

Alexander Foeth from GOLDBECK SOLAR was a guest on the Mexico Podcast last week. Host Björn Lisker asked him, among other things, how the Mexican government is trying to exert influence on the energy market and what this means for companies in the solar industry. An interesting conversation.

Renewable energies are not constantly available and therefore weaken the grids, the Mexican government argues again and again when it comes to expanding the electricity supply. With this justification, the Mexican government tries to explain legislative initiatives that are supposed to roll back the energy reform and clearly favour state-owned electricity suppliers. This approach is criticised by business associations and solar companies alike. After all, many companies have invested in Mexico since 2013, trusting that the energy reform measures will be sustainable.

Space for installations is available

In the 20th episode of the Mexico Podcast, host Björn Lisker talks to Alexander Foeth of GOLDBECK SOLAR about this development. Since 2018, GOLDBECK SOLAR has been active in Mexico with projects in the private sector and, together with its partner Notus, even produces electricity for the region itself. Most recently, the Autodromo and Mann & Hummel projects were presented.

“We even see ourselves in line with the region’s concerns,” explains Alexander Foeth, Business Developer at GOLDBECK SOLAR in the Mexico Podcast. “After all, we don’t use the public grid. The electricity is generated and fed directly into the grid at the consumer’s site. We actually create relief for the grid in this way.”

More than 80 potential locations and candidates for such solar projects have been analysed – sufficient development potential for Mexico.

Despite the presumed change of course by the Mexican government, GOLDBECK SOLAR is sticking to its investment in the Mexican market, Alexander Foeth also explains.

In his Mexico podcast, podcaster Björn Lisker discusses current events from Mexico once a week and classifies them with his guests for his listeners.
