GOLDBECK SOLAR, PACE CANADA LP and GP JOULE launch their first joint project.
CALGARY, Alberta October 24, 2022 – GOLDBECK SOLAR announces the start of construction of the Joffre Solar Power Plant with a groundbreaking ceremony in Joffre, Lacombe County. This is the first project in the 100 MWp portfolio developed in partnership with PACE Canada LP. The 47 MWac project will generate 88,450 MWhs of clean energy per year, enough to power more than 12,000 Alberta homes annually. It will be built by GP JOULE Canada, which has 11 years of experience in the field and is now part of the GOLDBECK SOLAR Group. This project and the following 3 projects: Youngstown, Hanna and Caroline will provide a demand for new skilled labor in Alberta and will make a significant contribution to increasing the tax base that can help grow Alberta’s rural economy. The construction of the Joffre solar power plant alone will create the potential for [400] full-time construction jobs and 8 additional operations and maintenance jobs over the life of the project. Solar energy projects like Joffre’s offer landowners the opportunity for diversification and income security as they work to innovate to adapt to the effects of climate change and increase agricultural yields from the leased land. The development and expansion of PACE Canada LP.’s renewable energy portfolio will support Alberta’s position as Canada’s leader in secure, sustainable and affordable energy and enhance its attractiveness as a location for progressive, climate-conscious businesses.
The overall strategy
Alberta is a key market for renewable energy. The construction of the Joffre solar park requires an investment of more than C$70 million, of which PACE Canada LP plans to raise and deploy significant funds in Alberta’s clean energy sector in the coming years, thanks to the government’s continued support for the growth of this sector. Joachim Goldbeck / CEO of the GOLDBECK SOLAR Group and Director of PACE Canada, adds: “Canada, and Alberta in particular, are very promising markets for us. We started project developments under PACE Canada LP in March and recently acquired the specialized EPC unit GP JOULE EPC NA to complete our renewable energy strategy in Canada. With them as part of our GOLDBECK SOLAR Group, we intend to realize many more projects like this in Alberta and across Canada.” Barbara Shepherd, Reeve of Lacombe County, said in support of their first utility-scale project, “Lacombe County welcomes PACE Canada LP to our community. With access to the power grid right across the site, we believe this is the perfect location for the first project of its kind in the county.”
