Zwartowo project closes financing round, setting a milestone for the Polish solar market

Phase I of the largest solar park in Poland is scheduled to go online in June 2022.

Zwartowo is the largest solar park in Poland and aims to supply numerous Polish households with green electricity and thus reduce Poland’s historical dependence on fossil fuels. A decisive financing round of PLN 635 million (EUR 136 million) was recently concluded with the EBRD and the two largest Polish banks, PKO BP and Bank Pekao, for the further realization of the project.

Construction proceeding according to plan

The ground-breaking ceremony for Zwartowo took place at the beginning of 2021. Phase I of the solar park, which is located around 65 km north-west of Gdansk, is now nearing completion. “Despite all the adversities, construction is progressing according to plan. In view of the ongoing disruption to supply chains, the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine, this is a remarkable achievement,” says Joachim Goldbeck, Managing Director of GOLDBECK SOLAR. With total costs of almost 200 million euros and a planned final output of 286 MWp, Zwartowo is a project of superlatives. As the largest solar park in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, it will supply around 153,000 households with solar power. For Poland, the project is thus making an important contribution to achieving its own climate protection targets.

Financing round completed

The lead company for Zwartowo is GOLDBECK SOLAR. The German EPC company from Hirschberg recently completed the financing round for the solar park. “The financing is an enormously important milestone for the Polish market, as it is the largest financing of a single photovoltaic project in the country,” explains Olga Kovalchuk, Head of Project Financing.

The financing partners are the EBRD as multilateral lender and the two largest Polish banks, PKO BP and Bank Pekao. Olga Kovalchuk says: “The project was very well received by the banking market and a competitive tender process enabled us to achieve market-leading financing terms, including an 18-year term.” The project represents an important contribution to achieving Poland’s climate protection targets. Together with its partner Respect Energy S.A., GOLDBECK SOLAR intends to further promote the expansion of renewable energies in Poland. “Respect Energy focuses on investments in renewable energy sources, which ultimately guarantee the Group’s customers full security in the area of green energy supply. Our goal is to create a green future for our country, so the investment in the Zwartowo solar park is a natural extension of our business strategy. We are very pleased that such an important project at the European level is one of our first investments,” said Sebastian Jabłoński, President of the Management Board of Respect Energy S.A.
