Working for the lizard: Together with Rifcon, GOLDBECK-SOLAR employees build a dry stone wall at the Großsachsen barbecue area

As part of Earth Week, employees from GOLDBECK SOLAR and Rifcon built a dry stone wall for sand lizards on Thursday to mark International Earth Day. The nature conservation project at the Großsachsen barbecue area in the extended Winzerweg is intended to provide a pleasant environment for many animal species. The mayor of Hirschberg, Ralf Gänshirt, also paid a brief visit.

Instead of planning and installing solar panels and inverters, on Thursday some GOLDBECK SOLAR employees got their hands on a shovel and headed into the forest. They swapped the office for the barbecue area in Großsachsen for half a day. Together with the Rifcon team, they tackled the task of building a dry stone wall for lizards. The mayor of Hirschberg, Ralf Gänshirt, also paid a visit to our eager builders.

As part of Earth Day 2021 , our employees have launched an entire Earth Week . Just like many other companies around the world. Everyone has thought of a way to reduce their own ecological footprint and save CO2. Rifcon, with whom we are already working on various concepts for environmental protection, is of course the perfect partner to do something locally in Hirschberg. This gave rise to the idea of building a dry stone wall for lizards, which will provide a comfortable habitat for sand lizards, wild bees, birds, smooth snakes and other animals. It was built using sandstone from the former cemetery wall of the municipality.

Many small steps towards a big goal

Of course, Earth Day and Earth Week are just a drop in the ocean. “We must try to do as much as possible every day to protect our environment,” GOLDBECK SOLAR Managing Director Joachim Goldbeck is convinced. For GOLDBECK SOLAR, nature conservation is not just about installing solar systems. Monika Leiner was appointed Sustainability Officer a year ago in order to constantly examine how the company can position itself more sustainably. And she is actively supported by her colleagues, said Monika Leiner at the start of Earth Week. Many small projects have been created since then, and some are still in the planning stage.
