Our commitment to a sustainable future

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We pursue the goal of achieving a stable balance between economic, social and ecological aspects. Whether in development, our services or the construction of solar systems - we focus on the responsible use of resources, the protection of the local environment and the preservation of biodiversity.

We are convinced that the sustainable connection between people, nature, technology and prosperity is the key to a sustainable world. As a leading company in the field of renewable energies, we meet the challenges of our time with transparency and determination. Our vision focuses on reducing emissions, protecting biodiversity, increasing resource efficiency, promoting the circular economy and protecting human rights along our entire value chain.

We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals

We are aware of the far-reaching effects of our actions and always strive for the best possible results for nature, society and the economy. That is why we support the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as important guidelines for preserving our living space and ensuring a future worth living. As a global company, we at GOLDBECK SOLAR feel particularly committed to actively contributing to the achievement of these goals – especially in the areas where our core business can have the greatest positive impact.

No poverty – Ten percent of the world population lives in extreme poverty on less than US$ 1.90 a day.

No Hunger – More than 800 million people were undernourished in 2017. The aim is to end world hunger by 2030.

Health and well-being – Health is not a luxury good. Still too many children die at the youngest age. The UN wants to ensure that everyone has access to health care and medicines.

Qualitative education – Every child has the right to education. But still not everyone has access to quality education.

Equal rights – Equal opportunities for women and men must be implemented. No woman, no girl must be discriminated against.

Clean water and sanitation – Clean water is a matter of course for us. It should of course be available to everyone everywhere in the world.

Decent working conditions and economic growth – Forced labour, human trafficking and unworthy work no longer have a place in this world.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure – In order for sustainability to work, we need a sustainable infrastructure and industrialisation and must rely on innovation.

Affordable and clean energy – Our core mission. By 2030, renewables are expected to play a key role in the global energy mix.

Remedy injustice – Inequalities in terms of gender, age, physical limitations or income should be reduced.

Sustainable cities and municipalities – A strong development only works with strong cities and communities where it is filled with life.

A sense of responsibility in consumption and production – By 2030, sustainable management and resource use should be implemented and food waste should be at least halved worldwide.

Climate protection – With the Paris Climate Convention, 175 states have agreed on a course of action. These climate targets must now be achieved.

Aquatic life – Our seas and coastal ecosystems must be sustainably protected and pollution combated.

Life in the country – Ecosystems should be protected and preserved, the loss of biodiversity stopped.

Peace, justice and strong institutions – Peaceful coexistence is still not possible in many parts of the world. The UN is working to make it possible.

Partnerships – None of us can achieve these goals alone. This can only be achieved together, with strong partnerships - both nationally and internationally.

Our ESG strategy

Our commitment to sustainability is the foundation of our company. Our ESG strategy defines ten specific goals and makes a significant contribution to achieving eleven UN Sustainable Development Goals. The focus is on promoting clean energy from solar power, consistently reducing CO₂ emissions, protecting biodiversity and upholding fundamental human rights in all our activities.

We also attach great importance to increasing resource efficiency and establishing a circular economy. This is done within the framework of a successful and profitable business model that also promotes the prosperity of society. Our goals are clearly structured and are divided into the areas of environment, social affairs and governance.

Our ESG strategy in detail:

Goal 1: CO2 neutrality by 2030

Our goal is to become climate-neutral by 2030. At the same time, we will reduce emissions from travel, logistics and commuting by 30% compared to 2024. To achieve this, we plan to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energies, reduce energy consumption, electrify our vehicle fleet and introduce an internal compensation fund.

Goal 2: Expansion of renewable energies

We aim to expand our renewable energy portfolio to 4 GW of solar energy per year by 2030. By consistently developing our solar projects, we are making an active contribution to the UN goals for affordable and clean energy and promoting sustainable cities and communities.

Goal 3: Protection of biodiversity

Our Ecovoltaics concept integrates the protection of biodiversity along the entire value chain of a solar installation. This concept is firmly anchored in our processes for the construction of photovoltaic projects and ensures long-term positive effects on ecosystems.

Goal 4: Resource efficiency and circular economy

We are pursuing the goal of shortening the construction times of our solar plants by increasing resource efficiency. We will return up to 90% of materials from decommissioned projects back into the economic cycle through innovative recycling and waste management strategies. We are also committed to developing innovative Agri-PV concepts to enable dual land use that ensures both economic viability and efficient food production for agricultural businesses.

Goal 5: Involvement in local communities

We plan to build educational centers to strengthen the understanding of solar energy technology. Close to our headquarters, we will support educational projects with a focus on renewable energy, including programs for schools and universities that offer insights into solar technology.

Goal 6: Employee well-being and diversity

By 2025, we will establish a corporate culture that focuses on the well-being and diversity of our employees. In doing so, we will focus on reducing employee turnover, increasing diversity in management positions and improving employee participation in sustainability initiatives.

Goal 7: Sustainable supply chains

From 2024, we will make our supply chain more sustainable by introducing an assessment matrix. This matrix will include key performance indicators to assess human rights, environmental impact, service quality and efficiency, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals 8 and 12. Our aim is to promote economic growth while ensuring fair and safe working conditions throughout the supply chain.

Goal 8: Innovation and research

From 2026, we will invest 1% of our profits in research and development. In doing so, we will focus on the further development of solar technology, energy storage and grid integration. With this measure, we are increasing operating efficiency and creating high-quality jobs in the field of renewable energies at the same time.

Goal 9: Sustainable profitability

We are aware that solid economic profitability is fundamental to achieving sustainability. Only activities that are financially viable in the long term are truly sustainable. That is why we are committed to developing a profitable business model that combines environmental responsibility with innovation and the well-being of people.

Goal 10: Transparency and reporting

From 2024, we will publish comprehensive ESG reports to transparently document the progress of our environmental, social and governance goals. This initiative will provide clear insights into our sustainability performance and serve as a basis for trusting collaboration with customers and partners.

Let’s take action!

At GOLDBECK SOLAR, we are committed not only to providing clean energy, but also to creating a better and more sustainable world for future generations. We invite our customers, partners and communities to join us on this journey. Together, through innovation, responsibility and collaboration, we can create a world where technology, nature and society are in harmony.
