Roigheim solar park inaugurated: nature and climate protection in harmony

The new solar park covers 7.2 hectares Roigheimwhich GOLDBECK SOLAR realized for WEBW Neue Energie GmbH from Stuttgart. In future, 12,000 photovoltaic modules on the ground-mounted system will generate energy for around 2,700 households in Baden-Württemberg.

Another building block on the road to energy independence: the Roigheim solar park with an output of 6.5 megawatts has been inaugurated and generates renewable solar energy for the region all year round on an area of 7.2 hectares.

“We have long been aware that the generation of solar power will play an important role in the energy transition in the future,” says WEBW Managing Director Markus Schnabel. “The current events as a result of the war in Ukraine have given this realization a whole new dimension. That’s why we are particularly pleased to be able to supply 6.8 GWh of electricity per year right now and thus a little bit of independence.”

In future, 120,000 photovoltaic modules will convert solar energy into valuable electricity for around 2,700 households in Baden-Württemberg. However, client WEBW from Stuttgart and operator Green Plant Energy from Hamburg also attached great importance to building the ground-mounted solar park in an environmentally friendly way.

“This project shows how nature conservation and climate protection can be reconciled in the expansion of renewable energies,” emphasized Sönke Tangermann, CEO of Green Plant Energy. Three-meter-wide flower strips have been created around the solar park, providing food and shelter for breeding birds, insects and butterflies. The distance between the rows of modules averages 3.9 meters – more than usual – to ensure the greatest possible biodiversity. In addition, a further 4,500 square metres of flowering area and skylark windows are being created to optimize the habitat for this sensitive bird species.

Community welcomes the Roigheim solar park

“The current situation makes it very clear to us that we need to make faster progress in the expansion of renewable energies in Baden-Württemberg too,” said Minister Peter Hauk MdL, who attended the inauguration in his capacity as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Landsiedlung Baden-Württemberg GmbH. “Decentralized energy generation with photovoltaic systems can make an important contribution to this. Especially if the interests of rural areas, agriculture, nature and species conservation and the energy industry are brought into harmony.”

The Roigheim solar project also shows how successful cooperation between the various parties involved can be when everyone pulls together. “Our municipality was happy to support this exemplary project,” explained Roigheim’s mayor, Michael Grimm. “We are making our contribution to the expansion of renewable energies with full conviction. Today more than ever.”
