GOLDBECK SOLAR and Octopus Energy Generation Celebrate Groundbreaking for 48 MWp Perrinpit Solar Park in the UK

New Perrinpit Road Solar Farm will generate clean electricity for 12,900 households in the UK

GOLDBECK SOLAR, a leading provider of turnkey industrial, commercial, and large-scale photovoltaic systems, has reached a significant milestone together with Octopus Energy Generation: In March, 2025, the symbolic groundbreaking marked the start of construction for the Perrinpit Road Solar Farm in Bristol. This project is the fourth largest by GOLDBECK SOLAR since re-entering the UK market in 2022 and makes a significant contribution to the region’s sustainable energy supply.

Covering an area of 63 hectares, the Perrinpit Road Solar Farm will have a capacity of 48 MWp, generating approximately 49,200 MWh of clean electricity per year— enough to power more than 12,900 households with green electricity. This will enable an annual reduction of around 6,096 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Focus on Sustainability and Biodiversity

Sustainability and biodiversity protection are key elements of the project. During the construction phase, special measures will be taken to minimize environmental impact, including adapting schedules to avoid disruption during bird breeding seasons. In addition, extensive landscaping measures are planned upon project completion, including the seeding of green areas and the planting of new trees to restore the natural habitat.

Technological Innovation and Complex Planning

The solar farm relies on state-of-the-art technology: A total of 77,948 bifacial modules with three different capacities, along with 126 inverters, will optimize energy production. By utilizing bifacial technology, the system captures sunlight from both sides of the panel, significantly increasing electricity without requiring additional land.
One of the project’s unique challenge lies in its location – the installation spans multiple fields on both sides of a public highway, requiring meticulous planning and precise execution. Completion is scheduled for April 2026.

A Sustainable Project with a Future

Tobias Schüßler, COO of GOLDBECK SOLAR, highlights the importance of the project: “With the Perrinpit Road Solar Farm, we demonstrate that sustainable energy production and environmental protection can go hand in hand. Despite the complex geographical conditions, our approach is based on careful planning and innovative solutions to ensure successful implementation. At the same time, we place great emphasis on protecting nature and restoring the local environment. This way, with the 48 MWp Perrinpit Solar Park, we are not only creating a sustainable energy source but also contributing to enhance the local biodiversity.”

Colin Deans, Country Manager UK at GOLDBECK SOLAR, adds: “We are delighted to be realizing our second project with Octopus Energy Generation with the Perrinpit Road Solar Farm. This collaboration reflects the trust and shared vision for a sustainable energy future. By utilizing innovative technologies and an environmentally conscious approach, we are making a significant contribution to the green energy supply in the UK.”

Thorsten Lerch, Head of Regional Center Western Europe at GOLDBECK SOLAR, emphasizes:
“The Perrinpit solar park is another example of how we, as an international team, collaborate across borders to actively drive the energy transition forward. Especially in the UK, we see great potential for innovative photovoltaic solutions that are both environmentally and economically compelling.”
