GOLDBECK SOLAR develops new quality standard for solar modules

Solar industry publishes quality standard “Solar Module Quality Standard (SMQS)” based on VDE SPEC 90038-1

GOLDBECK SOLAR, a leading provider of turnkey photovoltaic systems, has co-developed the “Solar Module Quality Standard (SMQS)” in collaboration with market-leading companies and industry experts. This new quality standard defines requirements for solar modules, ensuring the long-term, safe, and profitable use of photovoltaic systems. “Solar modules are the heart of every PV system, and a uniform quality standard is long overdue,” explains Monika Leiner, Category Manager for solar modules at GOLDBECK SOLAR, who was involved in the development of the SMQS. “Until now, there has been no uniform approach in the industry, while at the same time module manufacturers are subject to high cost pressure. The new quality standard gives both manufacturers and operators a clear orientation and ensures maximum safety in terms of the performance and durability of the modules.” The SMQS not only simplifies the purchasing process through clearly defined requirements, but also creates certainty that the modules have been produced and tested according to uniform quality criteria. The aim is to support safe and long-term energy production through the quality and durability of the modules.

The specification is divided into three parts:

  • Part 1: Defines the requirements for manufacturing solar modules and the necessary documentation.
  • Part 2: Outlines the measurement and testing procedures to ensure optimal module performance.
  • Part 3: Provides a framework for production processes to ensure long-term quality.

GOLDBECK SOLAR shapes industry standards

As a company that not only installs solar systems, but also actively sets industry standards, GOLDBECK SOLAR strives to always offer its customers the highest quality. By participating in the development of the SMQS quality standard, GOLDBECK SOLAR is once again underlining its pioneering role in the photovoltaic industry and its commitment to quality and professionalism. “At GOLDBECK SOLAR, we understand that our customers make long-term investments and therefore expect maximum security in terms of the performance and service life of the solar modules. The SMQS is a decisive step towards fulfilling this expectation,” emphasizes Leiner. “At the same time, the development of the SMQS is also part of our mission at GOLDBECK SOLAR to significantly advance quality standards throughout the industry.” The SMQS was developed in close cooperation with market-leading photovoltaic companies and brings together more than 200 years of industry experience. The aim is to standardize the requirements along the entire value chain – from production to purchasing to operation – in order to ensure the long-term energy yields of solar systems.   You can find the first part of the specification here: https://www.vde.com/resource/blob/2354572/c01864ff4d03c7da05e0c9da6519e074/vde-spec-90038-1-v1-0–en–data.pdf
