Stadtwerke Amberg has set itself the task of expanding renewable energy generation and making the region fit for the future. In cooperation with GOLDBECK SOLAR, the Amberg open-space photovoltaic plant was built in the West industrial estate. A strong contribution to the local energy transition, which will supply around 2000 households with solar power over an area of 7.3 hectares. The GOLDBECK SOLAR Group, which specializes in solar plants with 30 MWp and more, is delighted with this successful cooperation. “A secure and sustainable energy supply is one of the greatest challenges of our time,” says Michael Cerny, Mayor of Amberg and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Amberg. “We have set ourselves the goal of consistently pursuing the path of decarbonization and also using the existing opportunities for generating renewable energy in the city area.”
The Amberg solar park will not only generate climate-friendly electricity, it will also contribute to biodiversity. The area has been enriched with a variety of plants that provide habitats for insects, birds and other animals. The concept was developed in cooperation with the Amberg-Sulzbach district group of the Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz in Bayern e. V. and supported by the animal rights activists.
“It was important to us to also create new habitats for small creatures, plants/hedges and birds within the open-space photovoltaic system,” explains Martin Malitzke, technical manager and authorized signatory of Stadtwerke Amberg Versorgungs GmbH. “In future, we will not only be able to showcase our renewable generation on the site, but also one or two nesting boxes, insect hotels and natural greenery.”
