Successful ground-breaking ceremony: start of construction for the Zietlitz solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The Zietlitz solar park planned for a former gravel pit will ultimately have an output of 76 MW.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Balder 01 project took place on July 2, 2020. The new solar plant in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is due to be completed and connected to the grid in the next six months. For GOLDBECK SOLAR, the Zielitz solar park is the largest subsidized project in Germany.

Conversion of former opencast gravel pit for solar park

Construction of the Zietlitz solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania began last week. Not only the project participants from GOLDBECK SOLAR were present, but also those responsible from the clients WEMAG and SENTUS. “As the largest tendering project under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), Zietlitz is naturally something special for us,” says GOLDBECK SOLAR Managing Director Tobias Schüssler. “But the location of the new solar park is certainly much more exciting. It is being built in a former gravel and sand mine. This means that the area will be repurposed in line with the energy transition.”

Zietlitz solar park produces green electricity for up to 16,000 households

At the end of the six-month construction period, the new Balder 01 solar park will have an output of 76 MW. This results in an annual yield of just over 72,000 MWh and a CO2 saving of 37,000 tons. “The Zietlitz solar park can supply up to 16,000 households of four people each with green solar power per year,” says Tobias Schüssler. “That’s huge for the region around Zietlitz.” This output is achieved with SunTech modules and inverters from SMA Central. The electricity will be fed into the grid at the tariff from the beginning of 2021, when the solar park is scheduled to be completed and connected to the public grid.
