Goldbeck Solar plans expansion of the Akadyr project in Kazakhstan

EPC company wins contract for another solar project

Exactly one day before the opening ceremony of the 50 MW Akadyr solar park, Goldbeck Solar is already in the starting blocks with its next project. The EPC company is planning an extension with a capacity of 26 MW at the same site, bringing the total capacity of the project in Akadyr to almost 76 MW. The project was put out to tender as part of an auction. Ten companies were admitted to the auction. These submitted a total of 60 bids, all of which had an output of between 10.1 and 28 MW. In addition to Goldbeck Solar, the Russian company Solarsystem LLP was also awarded the contract.

Goldbeck Solar relies on its experience

“We can now start directly with the expansion of the Akadyr solar park,” says Tobias Schüßler, COO at Goldbeck Solar, after the company was awarded the contract at the auction at the end of September. “As an innovation for the project in Kazakhstan, we are planning a mixture of a fixed system and a tracker system, each with bifacial modules.” Even before the auction ended, Schüßler was positive: “Our expertise speaks for itself. After all, we have already supported several projects in Kazakhstan and are very familiar with the local specifics.” Tobias Schüssler is referring in particular to the climatic conditions and the Kazakh authorities. As last time, one of the biggest challenges will be the weather conditions. This is because not all components can withstand the harsh temperatures of around -40 degrees Celsius in winter. This is why only high-quality parts will be considered for the extension. “When importing the parts, we can rely on our experience from previous projects,” adds Schüssler. “We can therefore almost completely rule out project delays due to complications during import.”

Expansion of the Akadyr solar park planned for 2020

With the award of the contract, the Akadyr PV power plant, which currently has a capacity of 49.991 MW, can be expanded by 26 MW to 75.991 MW. Construction is planned for summer 2020. Until then, Goldbeck Solar will lay all the planning and logistical foundations to ensure that the project runs smoothly.
